2013 Art Artist Issue 2 — 01 April 2013
Check out the Special Moves art exhibition on at MOP Projects in April. The exhibition features some great artists. Here is the press release:
Featuring works by Julie Fragar, Christian Flynn, Leah Emery, Miles Hall, Arryn Snowball and Jonathan McBurnie, Special Moves is an exhibition examining the essential practice of drawing in contemporary art. While the exhibition features a cross-section of diverse media-drawing, painting, cross-stitch, video and printmaking- it explodes the relationship of drawing throughout these media, situating this kind of tactile, intuitive and gestural art making as a resistance or alternative to the dominant digital status quo. The exhibition weaves an intricate tapestry between the lives and work of the six artists, all of which have had significant ongoing relationships with both Brisbane and Sydney, their varying regional upbringings, and most importantly, each other. At different times friends, rivals, mentors, colleagues, students and teachers to each other, the studio works of each artist speak to each other in a fascinating visual conversation.
Opening April 18, at 6pm. MOP Projects 2/39 Abercrombie Street, Chippendale, Sydney. Exhibition runs April 18 til May 5. Gallery hours are 1-6pm, Thurday-Sunday. Arryn Snowball, Slow Dance (still), 2012 Christian Flynn, Unification Theory 1, 2013 Julie Fragar, Poking the Ghost Skin, 2013 Leah Emery, Untitled, 2013 Exif_JPEG_PICTURE Jonathan McBurnie, Welcome to the Future, 2013
